Europeana, le opere sono per lo più francesi, perché?

Questa è la tabella in percentuale delle opere di ogni Stato membro dell'Unione Europea presenti nella biblioteca digitale on-line Europeana, aggiornato al primo Novembre 2008.

In Europeana (il cui sito web ha qualche problema in partenza), la quantità di opere francesi è superiore  rispetto a quelle  italiane, spagnole, tedesche (se n'è accorto anche Matteo Vannucchi, blogger di Nòva100). Perché? L'ho chiesto oggi a Viviane Reding, commissario europeo Information Society and Media, alla presentazione ufficiale di Europeana presso la Bibliothèque Royale de Belgique. Here there is the percentage of items in Europeana, the digital library on-line, per
Member State as of 1st November 2008:

In Europeana, the digital on-line library (its web-site does not open so well), the percentage of the French items is higher than the Italian, German and Spanish ones. Why? I asked it today to Mrs Viviane Reding, European Commissioner Information Society and Media, at the presentation of Europeana at the Bibliothèque Royale de Belgique.
